Former world champion and three-time Olympic medalist Shoma Uno will return to competition alongside world junior champion Marin Honda in ice dance from next season. According to an announcement Friday, the pair aim to compete at the Winter Olympics.
Uno, who took a break after the 2022 Olympics, won silver at PyeongChang 2018 and bronze at Beijing 2022 in men's singles. Honda, meanwhile, won the world junior title in 2017 and competed in women's singles before transitioning to ice dance.
The pair said they have been training together for several months and decided to officially team up to leverage each other's strengths. Honda said: 'We want to create something special on the ice, combining both our technical and artistic abilities.'
Uno added: 'Marin is a talented athlete, and I believe our combination will bring something new to the sport. Our goal is the Olympics.'
It remains unclear what competition schedule awaits the duo, but they are expected to enter international events starting this autumn.
