At the Silesia Diamond League in Poland, world champions Oblique Seville and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden claimed convincing victories in the 100m, while Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis continued his dominance in the pole vault.
Jamaica's world champion Seville won with a time of 9.83 seconds, breaking the meet record. Americans Kenny Bednarek (9.87) and Christian Coleman (9.93) finished second and third, respectively.
In the women's 100m, Jefferson-Wooden beat Olympic champion Julien Alfred in their first head-to-head of the season, clocking 10.78 seconds – a season's best. Olympic champion Sha'Carri Richardson finished third in 10.96.
Meanwhile, Armand Duplantis had an unusual struggle with three misses before clearing 6.20m to secure victory. Norway's Sondre Guttormsen took second with 6.00m, while Greece's Emmanouil Karalis earned bronze at the same height.
Dos Santos Outlasts World Record Holder Warholm
Brazil's Alison Dos Santos delivered a standout performance, beating world record holder Karsten Warholm in a thrilling 400m hurdles race with a time of 46.43 seconds – the sixth-fastest in history.
The mark broke the meet record of 46.82 set by Warholm last year.
“I was expecting a fast race; the field was amazing – everyone was there,” Dos Santos said. “I knew that to win here, I had to give my all.”
Warholm's compatriot Jakob Ingebrigtsen, fresh off his European 5,000m gold, made his first Diamond League 1,500m appearance in two years. He finished fourth in a race won by American Ethan Strand in 3:30.77, ahead of Kenya's Phanuel Kipkosegi Koech and Olympic champion Cole Hocker of the U.S.
“I felt a bit stiff at the start, then better as the race went on,” the Norwegian said. “Every day I will get stronger.”
Ethan Katzberg and Camryn Rogers, who brought Canada double gold at last year's Tokyo World Championships, won their hammer throws with efforts of 82.92m and 77.09m, respectively.
Olympic and 2023 world champion Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic won the women's 400m in 48.87. However, Morocco's two-time Olympic steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali had to settle for second behind Ethiopia's Gemechu Godana, who set a meet record of 8:02.74.
World record holder Ja'Kobe Tharp won the 110m hurdles in 13.05, while teammate Alaysha Johnson took the women's 100m hurdles in 12.52.
Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh equaled the meet record to win the women's high jump at 2.00m. Botswana's Busang Collen Kebinatshipi broke the meet record set by world record holder Wayde van Niekerk, winning the 400m in 43.59.
