UK official: Trade deal with EU possible within a year

Brexit Secretary David Davis said the risk of a no-deal Brexit has significantly decreased after Friday's agreement in Brussels, and a trade deal could be signed within a year. The statement followed a deal with EU leaders last week that opened the door for phase two negotiations on future trade relations.
On December 10, UK Brexit Secretary David Davis stated that the likelihood of Britain leaving the European Union without a deal has significantly decreased following the agreement reached by both sides on December 8 in Brussels.
Speaking on BBC, Davis emphasized that Friday's deal has reduced the possibility of a no-deal scenario. He also suggested that Britain and the EU could sign a free trade agreement within the next year.
This statement came after UK Prime Minister Theresa May reached a deal with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker last week, paving the way for second-phase negotiations on future trade relations between the two sides.
Under the agreement, Britain will continue to abide by EU rules during the transition period after Brexit officially takes place, while committing to resolve issues concerning the Irish border and its financial obligations.
