On January 7, a senior Iranian security official declared that the United States will have no place in the future of the Middle East. The statement came amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington following the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani.
Speaking at a security conference in Tehran, the official asserted: “Americans must understand that they have failed to shape the region's future. The countries of the region, including Iran, have full capacity and determination to chart their own development path without foreign intervention.”
The Iranian security leader also criticized US policy in the Middle East, arguing that Washington has repeatedly caused instability and escalated conflicts rather than bringing peace. He stressed that regional nations need to unite to protect their sovereignty and common interests, and that American efforts to establish influence will continue to fail.
The statement came just days after Iran launched missile attacks on US military bases in Iraq in retaliation for the US airstrike that killed General Soleimani. The Iranian official also warned that any future US provocation would meet a stronger and more decisive response.
Analysts suggest that Iran's tough stance reflects Tehran's strategy to consolidate its position in the region and pressure the US to adjust its policies. Meanwhile, Washington has not yet issued an official response to Iran's latest statement.
