United States star Christian Pulisic has reassured fans about his injury status after being substituted at halftime during the USMNT’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday. The 27-year-old AC Milan midfielder said his exit was purely precautionary following a minor knock.
“I took a kick early in the first half, but I hope there’s no issue. They were just being careful. I think I’ll be fine in a couple of days,” Pulisic told reporters.
Pulisic is a key figure for the U.S. team, which is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup and playing its first home match in 32 years. He provided the assist for Paraguay’s own goal and combined with Weston McKennie in a training-ground-style move.
However, Pulisic was withdrawn at halftime and later revealed he had taken a knock to the “back of the leg,” specifically his left calf. “I’ve had similar injuries before… I’m still optimistic. I don’t think it’s anything serious,” he added.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino confirmed Pulisic’s substitution was to “take no risks.” The U.S. will face Australia next Friday in Seattle, followed by their final group-stage match against Turkey on June 25 in Los Angeles.
The convincing win puts the U.S. top of Group D with three points, while Paraguay sits at the bottom. Australia and Turkey meet later this weekend. The top two of each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, advance to the knockout stage, which begins with a round of 32.
