Government sources in Yemen said Houthi rebels launched missile attacks on army camps in the provinces of Hadramout and Marib on Thursday, killing at least 30 soldiers and wounding 15 others.
The targets included several camps run by the Yemeni Emergency Forces. According to officials, this is the most severe casualty-causing attack in the conflict between government forces and Houthi rebels in recent years, and it continues a trend of increasing violence in recent weeks.
The Yemeni army confirmed the attacks and viewed them as a Houthi response to military operations they had conducted against the group earlier.
According to Yemeni military sources, Houthi rebels fired eight missiles from al-Jawf province, north of Marib, targeting the al-Thiniya and al-Abr areas in Hadramout and the al-Rouk area in Marib.
The sources also warned that the number of casualties could continue to rise in the coming period.
