Shohei Ohtani once again impressed on both the mound and at the plate, but his efforts could not prevent the Los Angeles Dodgers from a 9-8 defeat to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.
Ohtani, the Japanese two-way star, turned in a quality start of 6⅔ innings, allowing three runs while striking out seven. At the plate, he launched a two-run home run in the third inning, playing a major role in the Dodgers' offensive push.
The Pirates, however, mounted a stunning comeback in the late innings, scoring five combined runs in the seventh and eighth to grab the lead. Despite a late rally by the Dodgers, they could not hold on and fell short.
The loss denied Ohtani his seventh win of the season, but he continued to prove his elite status with a comprehensive performance. The Dodgers now must address their bullpen and late-inning defense ahead of upcoming matchups.
