Gelareh Nazemi, Iran's first female futsal referee, has officially hung up her whistle at the age of 38, closing a remarkable chapter and paving the way for future generations of women referees in the country.
Nazemi began refereeing in 2007 and quickly rose through the ranks to be recognized as Iran's first professional female futsal referee. Throughout her career, she officiated many important domestic and international matches, helping to elevate the status of women in a sport that has had limited female representation.
Speaking at a tribute ceremony held in Tehran, Nazemi said: "I feel proud to have been a pioneer, but the greatest success is seeing more and more young female referees pursuing this path. I believe they will write new chapters in history."
The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran thanked and honored her contributions, affirming that Nazemi will continue to serve as an advisor and mentor for upcoming female referees.
Nazemi's departure from the professional arena is seen as a loss, but her legacy remains as an inspiration for the future of women's sports in Iran.
