NTT Weighs Building First Core Data Center in Japan for Anthropic

NTT Inc., one of Japan's major telecommunications providers, is considering building its first core data center in Japan for Anthropic, the U.S. artificial intelligence company, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke on Wednesday.

A core data center is understood to be critical infrastructure handling the core computing and storage operations for Anthropic's AI models. If realized, it would be the company's first such facility in Japan.

The reported move comes as Japanese technology and telecommunications companies step up partnerships with international AI players to expand domestic computing capacity.

NTT has not disclosed details of the plan.
