A shooting on a university campus in Virginia left five people injured and forced the school to lock down for several hours.
The shooting occurred early Saturday near the Quad Annexes residence hall at Virginia State University, according to a statement from the school.
The incident involved multiple suspects and left five people wounded, all of whom were hospitalized, with one in critical condition, the university said.
The university announced that the campus-wide lockdown was lifted at 8:21 a.m. local time; however, a significant law enforcement presence remained on campus as the investigation continued. Officials urged anyone with information to contact the Chesterfield County Police, who are leading the investigation.
The shooting came just two days before the start of the school's fall semester.
