Japanese Atomic Bomb Survivors Denounce 'Absolute Evil' of Nuclear Weapons at UN

Japan's leading organization representing atomic bomb survivors on Tuesday (August 25, 2026) strongly denounced the "absolute evil" of nuclear weapons during a United Nations meeting.

The event is considered the first international UN meeting directly involving victims of atomic bombings and nuclear testing worldwide.

Speaking at the forum, representatives of the hibakusha organization emphasized that nuclear weapons not only cause physical destruction but also leave severe psychological scars for future generations. The organization's statement came as the international community pushes for nuclear disarmament progress.

The UN meeting was held to amplify the voices of those who survived nuclear catastrophes and to urge nuclear-armed states to strengthen their commitments toward a world free of such weapons of mass destruction.
