Two helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning and crashed in the western part of the city, killing all six people on board, including comedian and singer Oliver Tree, according to reports.
Rio de Janeiro’s Military Fire Department said one of the helicopters crashed into a car dealership where several electric vehicles were parked, sparking a fire that was later extinguished.
Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision.
Tree, who was in Brazil on a world tour and scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom in September, was on one of the downed helicopters when all passengers died, a police source told AFP.
The alternative singer and social media personality was listed among six people on the passenger manifest of the two aircraft provided by the source, who said the victims could not be formally identified because they suffered severe burns in the accident.
Passengers traveling with the singer included a Brazilian music producer, an Argentine video director, and Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim, known online as 'Gaspi'.
The helicopters collided mid-air in the western suburb of Recreio dos Bandeirantes before crashing into the parking lot of an electric vehicle dealership, causing about 20 cars to catch fire, according to fire officials.
One helicopter carried five people and the other only the pilot. There were no survivors.
Oliver Tree, 32 – known for his distinctive bowl cut and provocative internet persona – was famous for hits such as 'Life Goes On', 'Miss You', and 'Alien Boy'. He had more than 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with his top songs streamed over 700 million times.
