Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman on February 15 issued a strong statement aimed at US President Donald Trump, asserting that Trump “should never admit defeat” in his efforts to pressure Tehran.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, emphasized: “The US president should understand that admitting defeat is not advisable. Instead, he must accept the reality that the policies of sanctions and threats have completely failed.”
The Iranian spokesman also argued that the “maximum pressure” strategy of the Trump administration had achieved none of its goals. “The Iranian people have stood firm against illegal sanctions. Diplomatic efforts to isolate Iran have also yielded no results,” Khatibzadeh said.
Trump had previously repeatedly stated he would force Iran back to nuclear negotiations with tougher terms. However, Tehran has rejected any dialogue under pressure. Tensions between the two countries have escalated since 2018 when the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) and reimposed sanctions.
The latest remarks from Tehran come as Trump is in the final months of his presidency, facing multiple domestic political challenges. Analysts suggest this move by Iran aims to send a tough signal, reaffirming its stance of no concessions to Washington.
