Thousands of Iranians gathered in the city of Qom on October 10 to commemorate the death of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and a central figure in Shia Islam. The solemn event included prayer rituals, hymns, and marches along the main streets.
According to local sources, this year’s commemoration drew a large crowd, including women and children. Many wore traditional black attire, carried religious symbols, and recited poems praising Imam Hussein. Authorities deployed security forces to ensure order and safety among the attendees.
Imam Hussein was martyred in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD, and his memorial day, known as Ashura, is one of the most important observances for Shia Muslims. In Iran, the commemoration typically lasts ten days, featuring religious and charitable activities.
