Iran and Saudi Foreign Ministers Discuss Diplomatic Progress and Regional Situation

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call on March 28 to discuss bilateral diplomatic progress and regional issues. They exchanged views on ties since the China-brokered agreement in March 2023 and stressed the importance of continued dialogue for stability and cooperation.
On March 28, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan held a phone conversation, focusing on the ongoing diplomatic process between the two countries as well as key developments in the region.
According to a statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides exchanged views on the progress in bilateral relations since the March 2023 agreement brokered by China, while emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue to enhance stability and cooperation in the Middle East.
The phone call took place as Iran and Saudi Arabia work to restore relations after years of tension. The ministers also discussed the situations in Yemen and Gaza, agreeing on the need to coordinate efforts to address shared challenges.
Earlier, in January 2024, the two sides held their first round of bilateral dialogue in Riyadh, committing to advance security and economic cooperation. The latest call is seen as another step in the roadmap for normalizing relations.
