On April 14, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy held a phone conversation focused on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern.
According to a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry, the two diplomats exchanged views on recent developments, including the situation in the Middle East and efforts to promote stability. Foreign Minister Araghchi stressed that regional issues can only be resolved through dialogue and cooperation among nations, expressing hope that Tehran–London ties would continue to grow on the basis of mutual respect.
On the UK side, Foreign Secretary Lammy underscored his country's commitment to maintaining diplomatic channels with Iran, while calling for restraint and urging all parties to avoid actions that could escalate regional tensions. The call took place against a backdrop of persisting differences in bilateral relations, yet both sides agreed on the importance of continued high-level diplomatic exchanges.
This marks a rare contact between senior diplomats of the two countries in recent times, amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and concerns over Iran’s nuclear program, which remain key focuses of the international community.
