On January 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held a phone call to discuss bilateral relations and key regional developments.
According to a statement from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides exchanged views on enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and infrastructure connectivity. The diplomats also underscored the importance of advancing joint projects such as the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to facilitate trade between Asia and Europe.
Regarding the regional situation, the foreign ministers expressed deep concern over the instability in Afghanistan, especially regarding security and humanitarian issues. They agreed to intensify coordination to promote peace, stability, and reconstruction in the country, while calling for international support to address the crisis in Afghanistan.
The phone call also touched upon security challenges in the Middle East, including the situation in Yemen and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stability, peace, and multilateral cooperation.
