Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio today, during which Araghchi stressed that peace in the Middle East is unattainable as long as the US administration continues its policy of military intervention in the region. His remarks came against a backdrop of rising tensions following recent attacks.
According to Iran's Foreign Ministry, Araghchi criticized US military actions in the Middle East during the call, arguing they fuel instability and terrorism. “Peace and stability can only come when the US stops interfering and respects the sovereignty of regional nations,” he said.
On the US side, Secretary Rubio expressed concerns over Iran's nuclear program and Tehran's military activities in Syria and Yemen. However, he did not make any concrete commitments to change US intervention policy.
The phone call took place just days after the US announced new sanctions targeting entities linked to Iran. Analysts say the dialogue is unlikely to ease tensions, especially as both sides maintain hardline positions.
This is the first direct exchange between the US and Iranian foreign ministers since President Donald Trump took office. Iran has repeatedly called for the US to withdraw from the Middle East and lift sanctions.
