On October 13, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, beginning a two-day official visit. This is his first trip to Iraq since assuming office.
Speaking at the airport after landing, Foreign Minister Araghchi said the visit aims to strengthen friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation between the two neighboring countries. He emphasized that Iran values Iraq's role in the region and seeks to promote dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
According to the schedule, during his stay in Iraq, Mr. Araghchi will hold talks with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein and meet with other senior officials. Discussions are expected to focus on economic and trade cooperation, border security, as well as the situation in the Middle East, particularly the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, as Iran and its allies face multiple security challenges. Iraq, a neighboring country sharing a long border with Iran, plays an important mediating role in regional affairs.
