Title Race Prediction
According to Opta's supercomputer, Arsenal are the clear favorites with a 38% probability of successfully defending their title. However, retaining the Premier League crown is never easy – only three clubs have done so, each under different managers: Manchester United's Alex Ferguson, Chelsea's Jose Mourinho, and Manchester City's Pep Guardiola.
Arsenal's style of play last season relied heavily on solid defense and set pieces. The back injury to key center-back William Saliba could derail Mikel Arteta's plans to keep the trophy.
Manchester City, last season's runners-up, are second with a 20.5% chance. Enzo Maresca's side, which replaced Pep Guardiola, still boasts Erling Haaland, the league's top scorer in 2025-26 with 27 goals.
Liverpool, under new manager Andoni Iraola, sit third with 9.2%. Manchester United are fourth at 6.2%, thanks to an impressive second half of last season under Michael Carrick. Aston Villa complete the top five with 4.8%.
Relegation Candidates
All three promoted teams are tipped by Opta as favorites to go back down. Hull City lead that list at 38.7%, followed by Ipswich Town (31.2%) and Coventry City (27.9%).
Notable Transfers
Arsenal have signed Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. Chelsea, under new boss Xabi Alonso, brought in striker Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a British-record fee reported at £117 million ($156.5 million), alongside center-back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.
Liverpool secured defender Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona. Manchester United acquired Youri Tielemans from Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea. Sandro Tonali moved from Newcastle to Tottenham, while Man City signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
One of the biggest pre-season questions is who will replace Rodri at the Etihad, as the Ballon d'Or-winning midfielder is reportedly heading to Barcelona.
