Overnight Russian missile and bomb attacks killed six people in Ukraine's southeastern Zaporizhzhia region and damaged a children's hospital in the capital Kyiv, local officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, said Russia carried out a "massive" attack with missiles and aerial bombs, killing six people and wounding 19 others. He posted images on social media showing buildings and vehicles on fire, and reported power outages in the area.
Earlier in the morning, a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv caused damage and injured one person. According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service, debris hit a children's hospital in the Shevchenkivskyi district and sparked a fire at a warehouse, leaving one person injured.
In the southern city of Mykolaiv, a Russian drone attack injured a 75-year-old woman, according to the regional military administration head.
Russia's Defense Ministry said the overnight strikes targeted defense industrial facilities, transport, and logistics centers in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia.
The attacks come as Ukraine faces a shortage of Patriot interceptor systems, with Russia reportedly intensifying its campaign to overwhelm Ukraine's air defenses.
In Russia, a Ukrainian drone attack overnight killed one person and wounded two others in the Voronezh region, with falling debris sparking fires at warehouses, according to regional governor Alexandr Gusev.
Gusev said Russian air defenses shot down 15 drones over the city of Voronezh and five districts of the region. Online retailer Wildberries – often a target of Ukrainian attacks – earlier said its logistics facilities in Voronezh had been evacuated.
In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up ballistic missile strikes on Ukrainian cities, while Ukraine has also escalated cross-border attacks deep into Russian territory.
