Speaking at a press conference in Moscow on November 21, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned that Moscow could strike British military targets inside and outside Ukraine if Kyiv continues to fire UK-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles deep into Russian territory. This is considered the most direct threat yet aimed at Britain, a key NATO member and ally of Ukraine.
According to Zakharova, London is taking "another step" toward formally participating in what Russia calls "terrorism" against Russian civilians, and she warned of "catastrophic consequences" if Britain does not change its stance.
"We have repeatedly warned that all British military facilities and equipment in Ukraine and beyond its borders could be targeted in response to Ukraine's attacks on Russian territory using weapons supplied by Britain," Zakharova said.
She also called on British leaders to "once again carefully analyze the situation and immediately, decisively and clearly renounce the hostile and belligerent course."
The statement came a day after Moscow accused Ukraine of using UK-made Storm Shadow missiles to attack a shopping center in the Russia-controlled city of Donetsk, injuring civilians, including children.
Earlier, the Kremlin accused Britain of "adding fuel to the fire" when London announced it would allow Kyiv access to technology to build Storm Shadow cruise missiles domestically. France has also agreed to license technology transfers for the missile.
The diplomatic warning coincided with a new wave of Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, targeting critical infrastructure, killing at least one person and injuring many others.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on social media platform X: "Overnight, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, targeting ports, grain silos, energy, industrial and other infrastructure with ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles and drones."
The Ukrainian Air Force said air defense shot down 7 ballistic missiles, 1 anti-ship cruise missile and nearly 90% of the incoming drones.
In Kharkiv, one person was killed and two injured in a midday attack on a shopping center, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.
Debris falling in Kyiv damaged a school, shattered windows at a medical facility and injured two people on the outskirts of the capital. Attacks on industrial and energy facilities in the Poltava region cut power to 7 residential areas.
Steel plants and industrial facilities in Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia were hit, injuring 6 people in both cities. In Odesa, three people were injured in a multi-hour attack that damaged port infrastructure, an educational facility and a multi-story building.
Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed it targeted steel plants in Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia, an oil refinery in Poltava, logistics centers near Kyiv and three ports in Odesa.
In central Russia, online retailer Ozon said a drone attack damaged a logistics complex, part of a series of recent strikes on its facilities.
