A senior US official on June 22 admitted that the current situation between Washington and Tehran is at a complete impasse, with no progress possible on any front. According to the source, the Trump administration is facing a 'quagmire' in Iran, leaving all strategic options at a dead end.
The official said that despite the US maintaining maximum pressure through sanctions and military presence in the region, Iran has not conceded in nuclear negotiations or on regional security issues. US airstrikes targeting Iran-backed forces in Iraq and Syria earlier this year did not produce the desired results.
'We have tried every measure at our disposal, but there seems to be no way out,' the unnamed official stressed. 'This is a dead end for the US — every military, diplomatic, and economic option has failed.'
Analysis suggests that in this context, neither side holds a clear advantage. Iran continues to enrich uranium beyond permitted limits, while US allies in the Gulf fear a full-scale conflict. Washington currently has no clear path to escape the current situation.
However, some analysts believe that this very stalemate could open the door for direct negotiations, if both sides realize they cannot achieve a military advantage. The White House has not yet commented officially on the official's statement.
