A Cessna 441 operated by Anchorage-based Security Aviation crashed west of Cape Newenham LRRS airport at approximately 8:15 p.m. GMT on January 4, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
A spokesperson for the Alaskan Command confirmed that rescue teams found no survivors upon reaching the site. The purpose of the flight to the radar station, which monitors flights in Alaskan airspace, remains unclear.
Major General Robert Davis, commander of the Alaskan Command, expressed grief over the incident: "This is a tremendous loss for the military family and the community we serve. These individuals were dedicated professionals carrying out critical missions in a harsh environment."
Clint Johnson, head of the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) Alaska regional office, said there were two pilots and six passengers aboard. The Alaskan Command is investigating the cause of the crash and will release the victims' names after their families have been notified.
