At least 12 people were killed in a plane crash in Missouri, central United States, according to authorities.
The incident occurred on Sunday near Butler Memorial Airport in Bates County, south of Kansas City, the state's largest city. The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that all 12 people on board the aircraft died.
Sergeant Justin Ewing of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the plane was carrying people for skydiving. Emergency responders received a call about a plane crash and fire around 11:30 a.m. local time.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze shortly after the crash. Sergeant Ewing described the scene as "horrific." The aircraft crashed into a field near the airport. Authorities are considering closing some roads for safety.
The identities of the victims have not been released immediately. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. The initial cause has not been determined.
