Drone strikes on el-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state in central Sudan, killed at least 23 people, according to local officials and rights groups.
Emergency Lawyers said the overnight attacks hit residential areas, a funeral, a food truck, and areas near military positions. The group reported 23 dead and 19 wounded, while health officials at el-Obeid Hospital said 15 were killed and more than 10 injured.
The group blamed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), but the RSF has not commented. Al Jazeera could not independently verify the reports.
The attacks came less than a week after a drone strike on a market in Abu Zaeima, also in North Kordofan, killed at least 11 people. Neither side claimed responsibility.
In May, the United Nations said at least 880 civilians had been killed in drone attacks across Sudan from January to April.
Fighting has escalated in recent months in Kordofan and Blue Nile state near Ethiopia, especially after the RSF captured el-Fasher in October, the last major army stronghold in western Darfur.
Kordofan remains a strategic battleground linking RSF positions in Darfur with army-controlled areas in eastern Sudan and is fiercely contested. El-Obeid has been partially besieged by paramilitary forces for months.
The war, which began in April 2023 between the military government and the RSF, has entered its fourth year, killing tens of thousands, displacing nearly 13 million people, and creating what the UN calls the world's largest displacement and hunger crisis.
