Medical sources in Gaza reported on June 28 that an Israeli drone strike on two tents in Khan Younis killed at least two Palestinians, including a young girl, and wounded four others.
The Gaza Civil Defense said rescue teams recovered the bodies of seven wounded people from the attack site in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis. The injured were taken to Nasser Hospital and the Red Cross Hospital.
Separately, a 10-year-old Palestinian child died from wounds sustained in an earlier Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza. Sources at Nasser Hospital confirmed to Anadolu Agency that Walid Youssef Abu Jazar succumbed to injuries suffered days earlier in an Israeli air raid on al-Mawasi.
Al Jazeera correspondent Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Gaza City, said Israel was continuing attacks despite a ‘ceasefire.’ He stated: ‘Maximum pressure is a core pillar of Israeli policy since the ceasefire was reached last year. In the past few hours, we have received reports that Israeli drones struck makeshift tents in the al-Mawasi area, which under the ceasefire terms was designated as a safe zone for thousands of Palestinians.’
Azzoum added that besides airstrikes, ‘we are seeing an escalation of drone attacks that we still hear overhead.’
Israel’s killing of Palestinian children has drawn renewed attention after a United Nations report documented the targeting of children in Gaza and found that children account for approximately 30 percent of casualties since the war began in October 2023.
Children’s rights activist Rachel Accurso, known as Ms Rachel, spoke alongside one of the report’s co-authors and argued that the world had failed to stop the slaughter. ‘We are seeing children just like our own children trying to survive a genocide, but there is no action, no accountability,’ she said on June 27.
Chris Sidoti, a UN commissioner and co-author of the report, called the findings ‘utterly heartbreaking.’ He added: ‘States have an obligation to act, a legal obligation to act. We should have acted three and a half years ago, but it is not too late to start.’
The Gaza Health Ministry said Israel’s war has killed at least 73,043 Palestinians since October 2023 and wounded 173,417 others. Since the ‘ceasefire’ in October 2025, Israel has killed 1,031 Palestinians and wounded 3,309 others.
