On the morning of August 19 (local time), at the Vahdat (Unity) Hall in Tehran, the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran, in coordination with relevant agencies, organized a memorial ceremony to mark 40 days since the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Attendees included representatives from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, various ministries, sectors, and political-social organizations, along with a large number of overseas Vietnamese and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy. Notably, the presence of the President of the Iran-Vietnam Friendship Association and intellectuals and journalists with goodwill toward Vietnam reflected the deep sentiments of Iranian friends for the Party General Secretary.
In a solemn atmosphere, participants observed a minute of silence and reflected on the illustrious life and career of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. He was instrumental in consolidating and developing the multifaceted friendship and cooperation between the two countries, contributing to a solid foundation for the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Iran in the years ahead.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Iran Ly Quoc Truong expressed deep gratitude for the condolences and sympathy from the Iranian government and people over the passing of the Party General Secretary, affirming that Vietnam will continue to nurture the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Earlier, upon learning of his passing, senior Iranian leaders, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and many officials, sent messages and letters of condolence. A delegation led by Vice President Mohammad Mokhber also traveled to Vietnam to attend the state funeral, expressing grief and respect for the Party General Secretary.
