The New York Knicks completed the largest comeback in NBA Finals history, rallying from 29 points down to edge the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 on Wednesday night (June 10, 2026) and move within one win of their first championship since 1973. Leading the series 3-1, the Knicks have three chances to clinch the title.
OG Anunoby tipped in Jalen Brunson's missed 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left, capping an improbable rally. Early on, the game appeared hopeless as the Spurs led by 27 at halftime. Brunson finished with 36 points, and Anunoby added 33, crashing the boards as Brunson's shot grazed the rim and using his right hand to tap it home.
“I told OG that with his size, strength and athleticism, he had to be a monster on the glass tonight,” Knicks coach Mike Brown said. “I don't know if there's a bigger play in Knicks basketball history.”
No team had overcome more than a 24-point deficit in an NBA Finals game since the league began tracking quarter-by-quarter data in 1997. The previous record was 24 by the Boston Celtics against the Los Angeles Lakers in 2008. The Spurs led 81-52 early in the third quarter. The largest playoff comeback recently was 31 points by the LA Clippers against the Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of the first round in 2019.
The Knicks had their 13-game winning streak snapped in Game 3 and appeared headed for a second straight loss in the first half, as Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs built the largest road lead ever in a Finals game. But the young Spurs, after hitting 11 of 16 3-pointers early, cooled off in the second half, making just 3 of 17 from beyond the arc as the Knicks outscored them 58-30 over the final two quarters.
“We lost momentum and missed a lot of shots,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. “It's disappointing.”
Wembanyama had 24 points and 13 rebounds but shot 9 of 25. Dylan Harper added 21 points, while De'Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell each scored 18 for the Spurs. The visitors had won three in a row to open the series, only the second time that has happened in Finals history, and were on the verge of taking a fourth straight victory.
Jubilant fans at Madison Square Garden sang Journey's “Don't Stop Believin'” moments after witnessing the improbable. Security restrictions around the arena remained in place, prompting the Knicks to cancel plans for an outdoor viewing party. Taylor Swift was in attendance, but President Donald Trump was not.
Game 5 is set for Saturday night (June 13, 2026) in San Antonio. If the Spurs win, the series will return to New York for Game 6 on Tuesday (June 16). Wembanyama acknowledged: “I think it started before the fourth quarter. I can't explain it right now. Obviously we were not the most hungry team in the second half.”
