Seven Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, while a warehouse storing nutritional food for children and women was destroyed. Health officials warn of a total collapse of basic necessities.
Israeli airstrikes killed at least seven Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, according to local medical sources, as the ceasefire agreement in effect since October continues to be violated.
Three Palestinians were killed and several others wounded in an airstrike on a house in Beit Lahiya, near Kamal Adwan Hospital, on Tuesday, according to a source at al-Shifa Hospital.
Earlier in the day, a drone attack on a group of civilians killed a man in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis and wounded three others.
Three other Palestinians died from wounds sustained in earlier Israeli attacks in Khan Younis, according to Al Jazeera correspondent Nour Khaled. Two of them died from injuries in an attack on Monday, while the third was wounded about two weeks ago.
An Israeli airstrike from Monday night into Tuesday morning also destroyed a warehouse containing nutritional food for children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers in Gaza, according to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
"The force of the blast caused large parts of the building to collapse, including the roof and walls, completely burying the goods under the rubble," MAP said in a statement. "Aid workers, humanitarian facilities, and supplies that people depend on must be protected."
The warehouse belonged to Ard El Insan (AEI), a local humanitarian organization that works with MAP to support about 60 health points serving up to 100 women and children each day. All the goods in the warehouse were damaged and no longer usable for humans.
"The loss of this entire stock is a major blow to our work and will certainly affect access for children and women who need these services, especially as they continue to face the consequences of famine," said Sahar Salem, AEI project coordinator.
Also on Tuesday, the head of Gaza's Health Ministry warned of "a total collapse of basic necessities" amid a severe shortage of oxygen. Director General Dr. Munir al-Bursh said Israel "continues to escalate attacks on Gaza and violate the ceasefire agreement—which exists only in statements, not in the real lives of the people."
Al-Bursh added that "only 12 oxygen stations are operating out of about 34 total," and warned that "any further failure could cut off oxygen supply to patients." "If this oxygen supply stops, these people will die," he said.
The attacks and ceasefire violations by Israel come despite calls from US President Donald Trump for Israel to stop the attacks. In an interview with Fox News on August 17, Trump said Israel "shouldn't be attacking in Gaza" and that Hamas had agreed to lay down arms under the terms of a US-backed peace plan.
