At least one person was killed and several others wounded in an Israeli airstrike targeting the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital Beirut on the evening of November 22, 2024, according to local security sources and media reports.
The attack hit the Dahieh area, a densely populated residential district that also serves as a stronghold of the powerful Hezbollah militant group. A building was severely damaged, with rescue teams and medical personnel quickly arriving at the scene to evacuate and treat victims.
Witnesses reported hearing a large explosion followed by a plume of smoke rising from the targeted area. The Israeli military confirmed the strike, stating it targeted an Hezbollah weapons production facility and a nearby military building. Lebanese authorities have not yet issued an official comment on the incident.
This is the latest attack amid escalating tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border since the Gaza conflict erupted in October last year. Cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah have killed hundreds and forced many communities on both sides of the frontier to evacuate.
