The U.S. European Command (EUCOM) says about 80,000 U.S. troops are stationed in Europe, with 38,000 in Germany. The numbers change nearly monthly due to exercises and rotations. The announcement follows President Trump's comments on possibly cutting forces in Germany, Spain, and Italy.
WASHINGTON, May 1 (TASS) – According to an official from the U.S. European Command (EUCOM), around 80,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in the European region. The figure and composition of forces are regularly adjusted to align with the evolving international situation.
The official said: “Currently, there are about 80,000 U.S. military personnel operating in the European theater, with roughly 38,000 being permanent and rotational forces in Germany.” He stressed that these numbers fluctuate frequently, almost monthly, due to scheduled exercises and the rotation of forces in and out of the region.
The EUCOM official also stated: “We continuously review and adjust our posture readiness as conditions change, based on a mix of permanent and deployed forces.” This statement comes in connection with remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about potentially reducing the military presence in Germany, Spain, and Italy.
