Health officials at the Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza confirmed to Al Jazeera that a 12-year-old boy was killed and several others wounded in an Israeli drone strike on the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, on Wednesday (local time).
The Gaza Health Ministry reported that since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, Israeli attacks have killed at least 1,027 people and wounded 3,280. Overall, since the war began in October 2023, the Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks has reached 73,041, with 173,402 wounded.
The incident came a day after a UN investigative committee released a report concluding that Israel deliberately targeting children is part of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Committee chair Srinivasan Muralidhar emphasized: “Evidence shows that Palestinian children have been deliberately targeted and killed by Israeli forces. Even after the October 2025 ceasefire, children continue to be killed and seriously injured, demonstrating Israel’s defiance of the ceasefire and its obligations to protect Palestinian children under international law.”
Al Jazeera correspondent Hind Khoudary in Gaza City noted that Israel had previously designated the al-Mawasi area a “safe zone,” yet it has faced repeated attacks. Specifically, Israeli forces struck a tent camp on Wednesday, killing a 12-year-old boy named Ahmed and wounding at least seven other Palestinians. According to doctors, the victims struggle to receive treatment because Israeli authorities continue to ban and restrict the entry of medical supplies and medicines into Gaza. Additionally, another attack occurred west of Gaza late Tuesday, indicating ongoing ceasefire violations.
On the same day in the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian man, Mohammed Nazem Zayed, 29, in the town of al-Yamoun, west of Jenin. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed Zayed was shot with live ammunition after Israeli forces raided the area, and the military retained his body. Al Jazeera reporters said an Israeli special forces unit surrounded the house where Zayed was staying, opened fire, and left him to bleed to death. Israeli news site Walla, citing military sources, reported that soldiers from the Duvdevan unit fired during an “operational activity” in al-Yamoun.
Since the start of 2026, at least 71 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank. Since the Gaza war began, Israeli military and settler escalation in the West Bank has killed 1,173 Palestinians, wounded 12,666, detained about 23,000, and displaced 33,000, according to official Palestinian figures.
