According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, amid the complex developments in relations between Tehran and Washington, Iran requires firm guarantees that the United States will fully fulfill its commitments.
Speaking at a press conference on April 21, Baqaei stated: 'Iran needs assurance that US commitments will be implemented continuously and completely. We cannot accept any ambiguity or lack of responsibility from Washington.'
The Iranian spokesman added that Tehran is ready to engage in negotiations if the US shows genuine goodwill and commits to its obligations. However, Iran will not proceed with any talks without clear guarantees from Washington.
This move comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries after the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran. Iran has repeatedly called on the US to return to the agreement and lift the sanctions.
Meanwhile, US officials have not yet issued an official response to Iran's statement. However, analysts believe that Iran's demand for clear guarantees could be a step to put pressure on the US administration in potential future negotiations.
