During high-level talks in Bishkek, Iran and Kyrgyzstan agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in the economic, trade, mining, energy, and transportation sectors. The two sides emphasized the importance of facilitating business and investment, while reaffirming their commitment to raising bilateral trade volumes to higher levels in the near future.
According to a joint statement, Iran and Kyrgyzstan will establish joint working groups to advance specific cooperative projects, particularly in mining and mineral processing—a potential strength of Kyrgyzstan, which holds significant reserves of gold, coal, and rare metals. For its part, Iran is ready to share technological and technical expertise and invest in energy projects, including hydropower and electricity transmission.
The two countries also agreed to enhance air and road connectivity, facilitating the movement of goods between Central Asia and the Middle East, thereby leveraging Kyrgyzstan's geographical position as a transit gateway. Additionally, the leaders of both nations expressed a desire to expand cultural, educational, and tourism cooperation, viewing these as foundations for long-term ties between the two peoples.
Analysts note that this move comes as both Iran and Kyrgyzstan seek to diversify their economic and political relations, reducing dependence on traditional partners, while opening new prospects for businesses in both countries amid the ongoing restructuring of regional supply chains.
