Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday declared that the nation will not bow to excessive demands from its enemies. Speaking at a news conference in the capital Tehran, he stressed that Iran will continue to pursue its national interests without succumbing to outside pressure.
According to Pezeshkian, unreasonable demands from the United States and its Western allies, particularly concerning the nuclear and missile programs, are unacceptable. “We will never trade our sovereignty and national security for unfair deals,” Pezeshkian affirmed.
The statement comes as nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group (the U.S., UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) remain deadlocked. Iran demands the full lifting of sanctions, while the West insists Tehran must significantly reduce uranium enrichment activities.
Iran’s leader also accused enemies of using economic sanctions to pressure Tehran into concessions. “They think that by strangling our economy, we will surrender. But they are wrong,” Pezeshkian said, adding that Iran has prepared countermeasures for every scenario.
Analysts say this hardline stance risks worsening already heightened tensions in recent months, especially after the U.S. repeatedly increased its military presence in the Gulf region. However, observers note both sides still leave the door open for dialogue.
Meanwhile, experts assess Pezeshkian’s statement as aiming to strengthen Iran’s negotiating position while demonstrating unity within the Tehran administration. Iran is currently one of the world’s most advanced uranium-enriching nations, raising concerns in the international community.
