Jordan's state news agency reported five interceptions of missiles over its territory. The IRGC claimed its air force targeted a US air base and command center in Jordan "with multiple ballistic missiles."
The Iranian attacks coincided with US President Donald Trump meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, a vocal advocate for war with Iran. Al Jazeera correspondent Alan Fisher in Washington said this was Iran's way of sending a message to Trump that they need to be included in any discussions.
Earlier, President Trump canceled a two-week bombing campaign against Iran on July 24, stating negotiations were proceeding well. However, Iran expressed skepticism about the US's genuine desire to negotiate, suggesting cease-fire phases were merely preparation for a fresh assault.
US crude oil prices rose more than 4% to above $82 per barrel, while Brent crude climbed above $88 per barrel after the US military confirmed the attack.
In the Strait of Hormuz, the IRGC said it had "attacked and stopped" three oil tankers because they continued moving along an unsafe and illegal route despite warnings. Iran rejected Oman's proposal for joint traffic management in the strait, instead proposing each side manage its own maritime lanes.
