On July 15, speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani declared that Iran firmly opposes any efforts to sideline the Palestinian issue from regional and international forums.
Kanaani emphasized: "The Palestinian issue is the central issue of the Islamic world and a top concern for Iran. Any action aimed at erasing or overshadowing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people is completely rejected by Tehran."
The remarks come amid signs of stagnation in Middle East peace talks and as several Arab nations push for normalizing ties with Israel. Iran has repeatedly warned that normalization without addressing Palestinian rights will not bring lasting peace to the region.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also called on the international community to increase pressure on Israel to comply with United Nations resolutions, while reaffirming Iran's continued political and humanitarian support for the Palestinians.
Earlier, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has repeatedly stressed that resolving the Palestinian issue must be based on the will of the Palestinian people through a referendum, including indigenous Muslims, Christians, and Jews.
