Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said yesterday (10 August) that the country is among the world's leading nations in drinking water quality. Speaking at a water symposium, Ardakanian emphasized that despite facing severe water scarcity, Iran maintains high standards for domestic water quality.
According to the minister, Iran's drinking water purity, mineral content, and microbial safety indices are all at optimal levels, surpassing those of many developed countries. He attributed this achievement to advanced water resource management systems and treatment technologies.
However, he acknowledged that the biggest current challenges are distributing water to remote areas and coping with prolonged drought. The Iranian government is investing heavily in water infrastructure improvement projects, including building new water treatment plants and pipeline systems.
The announcement comes as Iran experiences its worst drought in decades, which has drained many reservoirs and rivers. Nevertheless, the minister affirmed that strict management measures have helped ensure safe drinking water for the population.
