On October 15, Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued an official statement condemning recent US threats against Oman, describing them as provocative acts and serious violations of the principles of the UN Charter.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said: “Iran firmly opposes any acts of threat or interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, especially Oman — a friendly neighbor with which Tehran enjoys warm relations.”
The statement added that US threats not only heighten regional tensions but also undermine diplomatic efforts and stability in the Middle East. Tehran called on the international community to condemn the move and urge Washington to abide by international law.
Earlier this week, several US officials made tough remarks about Oman’s role as a mediator between Washington and Tehran. While no specific measures were detailed, Pentagon sources suggested that the US might consider sanctions or diplomatic pressure to change Oman’s stance.
Oman has long served as a mediator in US-Iran talks, particularly on nuclear and regional security issues. Tehran and Muscat maintain stable diplomatic ties with frequent high-level exchanges.
Washington has not yet responded to Iran’s statement. Analysts warn that tensions could escalate in the absence of timely diplomatic efforts.
