Iran announced on January 27 it would resume scheduled commercial flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting January 28, following an agreement between the two sides on technical and security issues.
According to state news agency IRNA, national carrier Iran Air will operate the flights, connecting Tehran, Shiraz, and Isfahan with airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with a planned frequency of two flights per day.
Iran had suspended flights to the UAE in July 2024 due to restrictions related to ground services and air traffic control. The resumption is expected to boost trade and tourism between the two countries, which maintain close economic ties.
A foreign ministry official confirmed that the flights would comply with international safety standards and would impose no restrictions on passengers. The UAE hosts a significant Iranian diaspora of more than 400,000 people.
Analysts view the move as part of Iran's broader effort to restore international air links long affected by sanctions and the COVID-19 pandemic.
