Tehran – Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on June 12 urging European countries to resist “illegal” pressure from the United States, as tensions over Tehran's nuclear program continue to escalate.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, the ministry’s spokesman emphasized that Washington’s sanctions and coercive measures violate international law and lack legitimate basis. He called on European partners not to yield to unreasonable demands from the U.S., while urging them to uphold existing international agreements.
The statement reiterated Tehran’s consistent position that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful in nature, and expressed readiness to continue dialogue with relevant parties if they respect Iran’s legitimate rights.
The latest move comes as nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group are at a sensitive stage. Analysts suggest the message aims to pressure Europe to pursue a sustainable diplomatic solution.
The United States has repeatedly extended economic sanctions against Iran, hampering its international trade and financial activities. European nations, which are signatories to agreements with Iran, now face the dilemma of balancing relations with Tehran against compliance with Washington’s demands.
No official response from European countries has yet been issued regarding Iran’s statement.
