Iran has strongly criticized a US proposal to redirect its frozen assets to other nations in the region, calling the move a violation of international rules that risks escalating Middle East tensions.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said: “The US proposal is absurd and contrary to international law. These assets belong to the Iranian people and cannot be unilaterally reallocated.” He warned the plan would only increase instability in the region.
The US is reportedly considering using Iran’s frozen assets—estimated at billions of dollars—to support neighboring countries instead of returning them to Tehran. The proposal comes amid stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
Analysts suggest Washington may be trying to pressure Iran into concessions on nuclear and regional issues. Tehran, however, described the move as “organized robbery” and vowed an appropriate diplomatic response.
The US has not yet officially responded to Iran’s criticism, but American officials have previously asserted the right to use frozen assets under existing sanctions.
