Iran has warned France and the UK that sending warships to the Strait of Hormuz would be provocative and threaten regional security. Tehran called on both countries to reconsider and opt for diplomacy. France and the UK have not yet responded officially.
Iran on July 24 formally warned France and the United Kingdom against deploying warships to the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the move could escalate regional tensions and threaten maritime security. A statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry said Tehran views the action by the two European nations as an unnecessary provocation, especially at a time of already high tensions between Iran and the West.
According to sources, France and the UK planned to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to protect commercial vessels and uphold freedom of navigation following security incidents in the area. However, Iran insists the strait lies within waters it is responsible for protecting and controlling, and warned that any unauthorized foreign military presence could lead to serious consequences.
Iran also called on France and the UK to reconsider their decision, avoid escalatory actions, and focus on diplomatic solutions. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, with about one-fifth of global oil supplies passing through it. There has been no official response yet from France or the UK to Iran's warning.
