On August 14, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stern warning, declaring that if war resumes, the country's enemies will face much bigger surprises than those they have witnessed in the past.
Speaking at a press conference, Araghchi emphasized: “We have the legitimate right to self-defense. Any belligerent action against Iran will only force the opponent to pay a heavy price. If war breaks out again, the surprises in store for them will be many times greater.”
Iran’s top diplomat did not specify the measures or weapons Tehran might use but asserted that the country’s military and missile capabilities have significantly improved in recent years. He also called on relevant parties to exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions.
The statement came amid persistently high tensions between Iran and the West, particularly the United States and Israel, following multiple confrontations and allegations of sabotage related to Tehran’s nuclear program, missile development, and regional proxy forces.
Iran has repeatedly warned that it will respond forcefully to any attacks on its territory or interests. Analysts view Araghchi’s emphasis on “bigger surprises” as an effort to deter adversaries considering military action, while demonstrating confidence in Tehran’s defensive capabilities.
