Swiss police are investigating an armed robbery at the home of Formula 1 legend Alain Prost, which left him with a head injury. The incident occurred on the morning of last Tuesday in the town of Nyon, on Lake Geneva, in the canton of Vaud.
According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, reporting on Friday, Prost, 71, suffered a head wound when intruders forced his son to open a safe. The public prosecutor's office said in a statement: "The perpetrators broke into the house while family members were present, threatened them, and forced a member to open a safe before fleeing with stolen property."
"Despite a large-scale search operation, the suspects have not yet been apprehended at this time," the statement added.
Police, while not naming the victim, said that "several" intruders wearing balaclava masks "forced the door to enter the house. Once inside, they threatened those present and inflicted a minor head injury on a family member, under circumstances still being clarified. The assailants then forced another member to open a safe and fled with stolen items, the exact list of which is being compiled."
Blick described the four-time world champion (1985-1993) Alain Prost as "visibly shocked by this brutal intrusion" and reported that he has left his Nyon residence.
