Trade activity through the Bazargan border crossing, located in West Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran, has experienced significant growth recently, particularly in exports.
According to data from the local customs office, the value of exports through this crossing during the first five months of the Iranian calendar year (up to around August 2024) increased by 29% compared to the same period last year, reaching $1.1 billion.
Hossein Pourmoradi, Director of the Bazargan Border Crossing, said the main export goods passing through here include agricultural products, construction materials, and light industrial goods. The primary destinations are Turkey and several neighboring countries.
'This increase reflects the government's efforts to expand trade ties with neighboring countries and improve logistics infrastructure in the border area,' Pourmoradi emphasized.
In contrast, the value of imports through the Bazargan crossing also rose by 15% to $650 million, mainly consisting of machinery, electronic equipment, and raw materials for domestic production. Transit traffic also saw a 22% increase, highlighting the crossing's strategic role as a transit hub in the trade corridor connecting Iran to Europe.
Analysts believe the positive results at Bazargan are one of the signals that Iran's economy will continue to sustain its growth momentum amid the gradual easing of international sanctions.
