A fire broke out in the neonatal ward of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in the capital Islamabad, killing at least 15 newborns, according to local media.
Geo News television, citing hospital officials, reported that there were 16 infants in the neonatal unit at the time of the incident. Only one baby was rescued alive.
Officials said the blaze erupted after an air conditioner compressor exploded in the area. The fire has been extinguished, and firefighters are carrying out cooling operations at the scene.
There has been no official comment from local authorities on the incident yet. The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation.
