The Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced on August 23 that they have arrested two male Chilean nationals on suspicion of involvement in the theft of a series of expensive watches with a total value of approximately 200 million yen (equivalent to more than 34 billion VND) at a famous shopping area in the city center.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred on August 22 at a high-end watch store in the Ginza district, where the suspects took advantage of a crowded period to carry out the theft. The stolen watches included several luxury brands, with total damages estimated at around 200 million yen.
The two suspects, aged between 30 and 40, were arrested shortly afterward thanks to surveillance camera footage and the quick cooperation of local residents. Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether other individuals were involved in the operation.
This is the largest watch theft in Tokyo this year, raising concerns about organized crime targeting luxury goods in Japan. Authorities are currently coordinating with the Chilean Embassy to handle the case according to legal procedures.
