Pep Guardiola admitted Manchester City no longer control their Premier League title destiny after a chaotic 3-3 draw at Everton. City trail leaders Arsenal by five points with a game in hand, while still chasing a domestic treble.
Pep Guardiola acknowledged Manchester City no longer hold the initiative in the Premier League title race after a chaotic 3-3 draw at Everton on Monday (May 4, 2026).
“It is not in our hands anymore – before it was, but now it is not,” Guardiola said after the match.
Guardiola’s side trail leaders Arsenal by five points, despite having a game in hand. City had a chance to draw level with Arsenal had they won both matches against Everton and Brentford.
“We have four games left in the Premier League. It will be quite similar, and we will see what happens,” Guardiola added.
Forward Jeremy Doku scored an impressive equaliser in the 97th minute to complete his brace. “It hurts, but there are still many games ahead, anything can happen. We will keep fighting for ourselves and for the fans,” he said.
Erling Haaland, who scored in the 83rd minute, also told his teammates after the match: “We still have a chance.”
After facing Brentford, City still have Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Aston Villa. Arsenal, meanwhile, have a lighter schedule: West Ham United, Burnley and Palace.
Despite a major blow to their title hopes, City could still win a domestic treble. They beat Arsenal in the League Cup final in March and will face Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 16.
